Bundi City, Rajasthan Tourism
Located in southern Rajasthan, Bundi was established by Rajputs of the Chauhan clan in the twelfth century. Though the terrain is harsh, Bundi compensates adequately through the sheer color and vibrancy of life here. One of the major tourist attractions is the Kajli Teej, a local festival celebrated with typical Rajasthani gusto.

Attractions

Taragarh Fort

This fort, built in 1354, protected Bundi from repeated Mughal onslaughts in the medieval times. The fort is imposing, with wide walls, watch towers, and a water tank scooped out of a single rock. The structure, located on a steep slope and guarded by massive gates, appears almost impregnable.

Bundi Palace

Only part of this palace is open to tourists. However, the place is worth a visit, if only to see the beautiful murals adorning the walls.

Baolis

These are traditional water reservoirs built to keep dry conditions at bay. The Raniji ki Baoli is the largest of these baolis. It was built in the seventeenth century by Queen Nathvatji. The Dhabai, Bhora are other reservoirs in the city.

Nawal Sagar

This artificial lake is another popular tourist destination. Picnicking on the shores is a good idea. A tiny island in the center of the lake is home to the temple of Varuna.

Cenotaph

Constructed by Rao Anirudh, this cenotaph is famous for its 84 pillars.

Sukh Mahal

Sukh Mahal is the former summer residence of the Bundi royals. Of special interest is the underground tunnel that runs from Sukh Mahal to the Palace.

Bijolia

Located a few miles away from Bundi, Bijolia Fort is one of the lesser known tourist destinations in the region. If you are interested in visiting places a little off the beaten track though, Bijolia may just be the place to explore. The fort has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Of special interest is the beautifully carved archway leading to the temple.
